The SoundTrack of My Life

Image

I found this guy online somewhere and thought he’d be fun to fill out. I know you all are music lovers, too, so hopefully you’ll get a kick out of this. And to all my fellow bloggers—let me know what your life-soundtrack would be!

Opening Credits:
“Love” – Justin Nozuka

Why I Chose This Song: I imagine the opening credits to the Kelsea movie to be full of sunshine, perhaps some ocean, and sand. And I want all 4 of the people who have come to check out my life unfold in a theater to know that I wanted my life to about love.

Why You Should Listen To This Song: It makes me believe in Love and convinces me that it’s still out there. That I haven’t already experienced and squandered it.

Favorite Line From This Song: “On the land the seasons combine to make a new. The air is full of motion. With every breath I’m taking in, I feel you now. I think I’m in love, I feel like my heart’s exploding. The beat of the drum. A million lions roaring.”

Waking Up:
“Happy” – Pharrell

Why I Chose This Song: Kelsea first thing in the morning is seldom “happy,” but once I conquer the feat of getting my feet on the ground—I’ve got a much more positive outlook.

Why You Should Listen To This Song: You’ve already heard it. Probably one too many times.

Favorite Line From This Song: “Imma have to warn you, I’ll be just fine. No offense to you but don’t waste your time. Here’s why. Cause I’m happy.”

Off to Work:
“Guap” – Big Sean

Why I Chose This Song: I’m a young professional. Emphasis on young. And the “professional” world is nothing more but an elaborate game—at which I think I’m quite good. “Guap,” is me telling the world (and perhaps everyone in my office) that they can hate on me, but I’m still gonna do what I gotta do.

Why You Should Listen To This Song: It’s just a fun song. Big Sean’s the best and this song makes me feel like nobody understands me but it’s cool because I’m awesome and I’m getting guap!

Favorite Line From This Song: “My iPhone need a charge. My fish tank need sharks. I need a blimp to say the world’s ours!”

Falling in Love:
“Whenever Wherever Whatever” – Maxwell

Why I Chose This Song: I imagine the “falling in love” scene in my life-movie to be a lot of close-up shots and almost-kisses and deep eye contact. Ha. This song would accommodate those moments to perfection.

Why You Should Listen To This Song: This song transports me, (no matter where I am), to a king sized bed full of fluffy white sheets and sunlight. I am fast asleep, (looking flawless, duh) and the man of my dreams is singing this to me with more love than he’s ever felt in his soul.

Favorite Line from This Song: “Lead me on, girl, if you must. Take my heart and my love. Take of me all that you want.”

Fight Song:
“MaddCity” – Mad Rich

Why I Chose This Song: I can’t see myself getting in a fight, ever. But in the event I were near one, or perhaps at a boxing match, this is the song that I can see punches being thrown to. Plus when I had a little stint where I “worked out” (ha!) I was always running to this song!!

Why You Should Listen To This Song: Cause Howard’s an amazing rapper and his original stuff is perfect!

Favorite Line From This Song: “Gangstas keep them pistols poppin; all you see is gunsmoke. And he didn’t get his hammer from a Home Depot. But now it’s too late, cause now it’s Tuesday, and he’s strapped up like it’s fuckin doomsday.”

Life:
“Make it Mine” – Jason Mraz

Why I Chose This Song: So this is the collection of fast-paced scenes where I’m kicking butt at work and graduating college and buying a car (maybe a house) and yada yada. This song is about realizing your full potential while still celebrating this land we’ve been given.

Why You Should Listen To This Song: You will fall in love with Jason Mraz’s ability to rock you with a funky groove, gnarly wordplay, and positive message.

Favorite Line From This Song: “Timing’s everything, and this time there’s plenty. I am balancing: careful and steady. Reveling in energy that everyone’s emitting. I don’t want to wait, no more. I wanna celebrate the whole world.”

Mental Breakdown:
“I Will Follow You Into The Dark” – Death Cab for Cutie

Why I Chose This Song: As morbid as it sounds—this song is the most beautiful love song to me, in the history of life. There is nothing more terrifying to me than the thought of eternity and what comes after death. (Don’t wave your Bibles at me. I know about Heaven. I’m excited about Heaven. But it never… ends. Like… ever. Doesn’t that freak you out?) I chose this for my “Mental Breakdown” song because the same love that faces the fears of death would carry me through my “breakdown.”

Why You Should Listen To This Song: The vocals are magical. The message is hauntingly beautiful. And it’s kinda catchy. I know you’ll love it. (It’s not as creepy as I’m making it out to be.)

Favorite Line From This Song: “If Heaven and Hell decide that they both are satisfied: illuminate the “No”’s on their vacancy signs; if there’s no one beside you when your soul embarks—then I’ll follow you into the dark.”

Driving:
“F*ckin Problem” – ASAP Rocky

Why I Chose This Song: If you’ve ever been in a car with me, Sam, and Brittnee, you know full well why I chose this song.

Why You Should Listen To This Song: You’ve already heard it—but go listen again. Everyone in the world is on it.

Favorite Line From This Song: “Oh I know you love it when this beat is on, make you think about all them n*ggas you been leadin on…”

Flashback:
“Stop This Train” – John Mayer

Why I Chose This Song: Flashback scene—to whatever memory in my past! Insert some nice acoustic guitar and the smooth stylings of John Mayer, along with the very fitting lyrics of Stop This Train.

Why You Should Listen To This Song: Because I know you’re done with this “growing up” stuff like I am.

Favorite Line From This Song: “So scared of getting older. I’m only good at being young.”

Getting Back Together:
“You Give Me Something” – James Morrison

Why I Chose This Song: I’m sure my 3 viewers of my life-movie are quite confused as to why I “got back together” with whomever I got back together with. This song will hopefully do the explaining. (And offer some comforting vibes to help make my decision more acceptable.)

Why You Should Listen To This Song: If you don’t already LOVE James Morrison, I promise this song will change your mind. His voice is unrivaled. (And his British. So… there ya go.)

Favorite Line From This Song: “For every piece of me that wants you, another piece fights away. But you give me something that makes me scared, all right. This could be nothing but I’m willing to give it a try. Please give me something, cause someday I might know my heart.”

Wedding:
“My Heart Is Yours” – Justin Nozuka

Why I Chose This Song: Wahoo!! I got married!! Yess!! The prepping with my bridesmaids, the putting on my dress, the walk down the aisle, the tearful groom, the cake-in-the-face, the bouquet-toss—the whole THANG will be compiled into a nice 3 and a half minute scene with this song joyfully playing in the foreground.

Why You Should Listen To This Song: It’s the most triumphant love song I can think of. And I honestly want to walk down the aisle to it when I get married in real life and not in my movie-life. Ha!

Favorite Line From This Song: “Lover, when you look at me it hits me just like a summer breeze. Hold me close, underneath the moonlight melody. Darling, dance with me.”

Birth of Child:
“To Zion” – Lauryn Hill

Why I Chose This Song: I don’t plan on having kids and this is the first song that came to my mind that was about a child? Plus, I knew I needed some Lauryn Hill on my life-soundtrack.

Why You Should Listen To This Song: The vocals are convicting, it’s an overwhelming story, and it’s victorious! And I just listened to it and teared up… so… there’s that.

Favorite Line From This Song: “Look at your career,’ they said. ‘Lauryn, baby, use your head.’ But instead I chose to use my heart.”

Final Battle:
“Circles” – Incubus

Why I Chose This Song: I’m a HUGE Incubus fan, first and foremost. Again, I’m not a fighter, but let’s say there’s a war happening or maybe even a very heated argument that needs to be drowned out by some gasoline-fueled music: this song would do the trick.

Why You Should Listen To This Song: It’s not what you’re expecting—and the lyrics are great as well. Brandon Boyd’s just the best.

Favorite Line From This Song: “Seeing you disappear in my rearview brought to me the word, “reciprocity.””

Death Scene:
“Life is Wonderful” – Jason Mraz

Why I Chose This Song: Oh no, I died. We knew this was coming. As much as I’d love to think my funeral would be a huge celebration and not a sad funeral of people weeping—I know the latter is more likely to happen. Instead of some somber music to match the tone of my death-party, I chose this song by Jason Mraz which is all about the circle of life.

Why You Should Listen To This Song: It’s about ying and yang, about good and bad, about the balance and imbalance in life. It makes you think and more importantly, makes you appreciate this life.

Favorite Line From This Song: “It takes some silence to make sound. It takes a loss before you found it. It takes a road to go nowhere; it takes a toll to make you care. It takes a hole to make a mountain.”

End Credits:
“Someday We’ll Know” – Mandy Moore and Jon Foreman

Why I Chose This Song: You sat through my entire life-movie! My bio-pic!! What was this thing even titled? Probably something ambiguous like, “Blue Satin Sashes.” Thanks for watching the whole thing! You are now being rewarded with one of my all-time-favorite songs: Someday We’ll Know. Have fun singing it for the rest of the day.

Why You Should Listen To This Song: because I want you be in a good mood.

Favorite Line From This Song: “Did the captain of the Titanic cry?”
