On Transitions

The sun has risen on my ambitions.

“One Day” has come.

Later has blossomed into now

“When I grow up”s have melted into “before I die.”

And as I shift from a dreamer to a doer

As I grow from a maybes to yeses…

As I establish boundaries and protect my spirit

I decide

Not what, but who I will be.

Fearless.

Not what, but who I will be.

Honest.

Not what, but who I will be.

Respectable.

Not what, but who I will be.

Hopeful.

Not what, but who I will be.

Reliable.

Not what, but who I will be.

Love.

And should the sun set on my ambitions.

Should my “one day” end.

Should my “now” turn into “never.”

Should my work transition to more dreams.

I decide.

Not when, but where I’ll be.
